These palm islands, formed over thousands of years, are densely covered by a multitude of plant and tree species. This forms a habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna and an incredible variety of bird species, including the rarely sighted Pel's fishing owl. The leopard and lion that inhabit the Delta have adapted to life in the wetlands and are confident swimmers. This adaptation allows them to hunt the more elusive prey species that have retreated into the swamps. Many other species roam these lands and the permanently dry regions adjoining them, including elephant, buffalo, waterbuck, sable, kudu and giraffe.
The necklace of islands along the Xudum River make an idyllic setting for game drives, fishing, boating and guided walks. Within this private concession area lies some of the best opportunities in the Delta, for exploration by mokoro (traditional canoe), and this is both an ideal way to experience over four hundred bird species found in the Okavango. Not to mention the most exciting method of finding the elusive sitatunga, a rarely seen water living antelope, related to the bushbuck and nyala.
This traditional camp is built among spectacular shady trees of ebony and knobthorn and the dining area is raised on the water's edge encircling an ancient strangler fig tree. Accommodation consists of 8 luxury, twin-bedded safari style tents, raised on teak decks overlooking the Xudum River and the islands beyond. All have private en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water (24 hours), shower and flush toilet.
