Elsa's Kopje, named after the lioness Elsa, was made famous by George and Joy Adamson in the film Born Free.
In the wilds ofMeru National Park, Elsa's kopje is a luxurious oasis. Situated on a
kopje, the lodge blends into the hillside of Mughwango Hill, George
Adamson's original camp. The word Kopje means "small hill".
The cottages are all crafted from the
natural features of the hill. Each with a spacious double or
twin bed and an en-suite bathroom. The camp has an open bar, lounge and
dining room. Elsa's Private House has one double and one
twin room - both with en-suite bathrooms. There's also a living and
dining area, which spills neatly into its own private swimming pool.
The main lodge also has its own pool with a view of the Meru plains. The lodge is invisible to the eye as you approach the kopje.
Regular
sightings include Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, Elephant, Grevy's Zebra,
Reticulated Giraffe, Lesser Kudu, Grant's Gazelle, Leopard, Lion,
Cheetah, Rhino and the rare, elusive Greater Kudu. Meru is famous for
its bird life, including riverine and forest species as well as the
arid dry country species. The atmosphere induces a feeling of peace
thanks to a highly trained, unobtrusive team of staff and a skilled
host who manages the lodge.
