More
about Mauritius
36 miles long and 25 miles wide, lying some 1200 miles from the African coast, with a spectacular coastline of white sandy beaches, Mauritius is the perfect island for a tropical beach holiday.
The island of Mauritius has become a tourism mecca due to the coral reef which rings the island, the blue-green sea which gently laps the sandy shoreline, its warm climate and its hospitable people.
Mauritius is a year round tourist destination with a hot, wet season from December to April, and a pleasantly cool, dry season from May to November. The months of January to May see the highest rainfall and the possibility of cyclonic activity.
Colourful corals thrive in the shallow, warm waters and within the reefs live giant clams, primitive sponges and anemones, jewel-like fish of all shapes and sizes, octopuses, giant eels, urchins and starfish. Dive sites can be selected according to the diver's experience.
The Undersea Walk, submarine 'seafaris' and snorkeling, as well as luxury catamaran excursions to Il aux Cerfs, are just some of the highlights, as are the unusual Chamarel Coloured Earths and the Pamplemousses or Royal Botanic Gardens.
