Hominid remains and stone implements have been identified in Malawi dating back more than 1 million years, and early humans inhabited the vicinity of Lake Malawi 50,000 to 60,000 years ago. Human remains at a site dated about 8000 BC show physical characteristics similar to peoples living today in Horn of Africa.
If any country in Africa is to be chosen for the warmth of its people, the beauty of its rugged highlands with their delicate flora and stunning vistas, the seductiveness of its idyllic beach lifestyle and the wildlife adventure, most people will think of Malawi.

about Malawi
Lake Malawi, which Dr Livingstone aptly named 'Lake of Stars', is the country's magical centre-piece. Along the lakes's fringed shore the days are long and lazy tempting you to a bewildering mosaic of experiences. The colourful combination of Malawi's people, culture, spectacular scenery and activity offering - brings alive the spirit of enjoyment and adventure. A friendly heartfelt welcome and typical African hospitality awaits you here.
The country's geography is sculptured and determined by Africa's Great Rift Valley - the largest single geographical feature on earth. This ancient 5000km long geological formation bisects much of Africa from Egypt to Botswana and boasts a bewildering array of habitats and lush vegetation. Towering mountains, lush, fertile valley floors and enormous crystal-clear lakes are hallmarks of the Rift Valley - and Malawi displays them all.
For those keen on experiencing African culture in all its complexity and beauty, Malawi is possibly the best country for this. It rightly deserves its name as the 'warm heart of Africa'.
